Shehu Sani, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central, suggested on Saturday that the ongoing rivalry between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, might persist until the death of one of the parties. Sani described the exchange of insults as a long-standing pattern where Atiku faces aggressive responses from the former president.
Using the social media platform X, Sani noted that the dispute dates back decades, surviving through several generations. He remarked that the cycle of hostility will likely only conclude when one individual passes away and the survivor delivers a eulogy. The former lawmaker highlighted that Atiku has endured two decades of backlash from Obasanjo following his own pointed criticisms.
This tension reignited recently when Obasanjo labeled the selection of Atiku as his vice-presidential running mate in 1999 as his most significant error. In response, Atiku has frequently targeted his former boss, surfacing long-buried political grievances.
