Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2027 presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has dismissed demands for the resignation of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman Ola Olukoyede. These calls emerged following the EFCC’s decision to freeze the accounts belonging to the Osun State Government.
Adebayo argued that the anti-graft agency was merely performing its legal duties under judicial supervision. He contended that the real constitutional violation lies with President Bola Tinubu, who publicly ordered the EFCC to reverse its action. Adebayo described this intervention as a direct infringement on the autonomy of law enforcement institutions and a subversion of the rule of law.
Addressing reporters at the SDP headquarters in Abuja, Adebayo emphasized that if the Osun State government believed its funds were frozen improperly, it should have pursued established legal channels, such as filing a court challenge or seeking damages. He warned that political interference in investigative processes is dangerous, suggesting that the President’s actions constitute grounds for serious scrutiny.
The SDP candidate also condemned the broader leadership of the current administration, stating that officials often target low-ranking agency heads instead of holding the President accountable for systemic issues. He maintained that agencies like the EFCC and the police require independence to function correctly. Beyond the Osun controversy, Adebayo criticized the government’s defensive response to national concerns and urged Nigerians to prioritize electing a leader committed to accountability and constitutional integrity in the upcoming 2027 election.
