A Wednesday campaign procession for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, ended in disaster when a truck collided with a crowd in Ede. The collision resulted in the death of AbdulRasaq Ahmed and left seven others injured near the Oke Gada neighborhood.
Remi Omowaiye, speaking for the campaign media committee, confirmed the fatalities and injuries. He noted that the wounded individuals were currently undergoing medical care, with one person in critical condition. An unnamed witness stated that while the Federal Road Safety Corps had attempted to manage traffic by separating campaign participants from vehicles, the truck driver reportedly ignored these measures and entered the occupied lane.
Benjamin Adereti, the running mate for the APC candidate, reached out to the family of the deceased to express his sympathies. He formally requested that security services conduct a deep investigation to clarify exactly why the driver steered into the crowd.
