Ali Ndume, the Senator representing Borno South, has commented on the recent release of school staff and pupils who were held hostage in Oyo State. During a Friday appearance on the Channels Television program Politics Today, Ndume urged security forces to turn their focus toward Borno State, specifically his own constituency.
The individuals kidnapped in Oyo were released this past Tuesday following a 50-day ordeal. They had been abducted on May 15, 2026, an event marked by the tragic killing of a teacher shortly after the initial attack.
Ndume pleaded with the military to prioritize his district, noting that many residents remain in the custody of criminal groups. He highlighted that 42 children from his area are still held, alongside over 30 individuals from Lassa who were recently seized. Furthermore, the senator pointed out that more than 50 people remain missing from other incidents, emphasizing that despite the release of some captives from a group of 400, significant numbers of citizens are still being held against their will.
