The Senate has sanctioned a payment of N50 million to support the relatives of five individuals killed following the kidnapping of students and staff from schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Senate President Godswill Akpabio made this declaration during Wednesday’s session.
Akpabio characterized these deaths as a heavy price paid in the broader struggle against insecurity. He lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces and additional security personnel for securing the release of the hostages after 56 days. Each of the five families will receive N10 million as a gesture of assistance for their loss.
Those identified among the deceased include teachers Michael Oyedokun, who was killed by captors, and John Olaleye, who was shot during the initial raid. The fallen soldiers were named as Lieutenant F.A. Isaac, Private Silas Musa, and Sergeant Abena John Jerome, all of whom died while conducting the rescue operation. This financial support serves to honor the individuals who perished following the May 15 abduction incident.
