Security forces rescue two hostages in Bauchi forest operation

A joint security operation in Bauchi State has resulted in the safe rescue of two kidnapping victims held in Gwamnare Forest.

A collaborative security mission in Gwamnare Forest, located within the Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has successfully liberated two individuals held by suspected bandits. The Bauchi State Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the rescue on Thursday.

The operation was initiated following direct instructions from Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu, who ordered tactical teams to increase efforts in areas plagued by recent abductions. Security personnel targeted regions surrounding Dogon Ruwa and Rafin Chiyawa villages after reports emerged regarding criminal activity in the vicinity.

The rescue mission involved the Police Violent Crime Response Unit, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, regular officers, and Forestry Guards. On July 1, 2026, the team successfully identified and secured the victims: 50-year-old Alhaji Yahaya of Masallachi Hamlet and Alhaji Kabiru of Gwamnare Forest. Both victims emerged from the incident without injury, and no security officers were harmed during the exchange.

Commissioner Aliyu praised the responding units for their dedication and professionalism. He emphasized that the police force remains focused on clearing criminal elements from forests across the state to ensure public safety. Authorities confirmed that further operations are currently underway to locate and rescue other individuals still held captive in the area.
