The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) is requesting an objective inquiry into grievances linked to the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election held on June 20, 2026. Okechukwu Nwanguma, the organization’s Executive Director, released a statement calling on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigeria Police Force, the Enugu State Government, and the National Human Rights Commission to address concerns voiced by election participants.
RULAAC reported receiving allegations from PDP members regarding events surrounding the vote. While the group has not verified these claims, they are pushing for a transparent and unbiased investigation. They have advised the PDP to communicate directly with the complainants to uncover the truth.
Furthermore, the organization appealed to law enforcement to evaluate all reports professionally. They requested that INEC use these concerns to improve future electoral processes and encouraged the Enugu State government to maintain an atmosphere where democratic participation is protected. The National Human Rights Commission was also invited to monitor the situation and provide recommendations if necessary. Nwanguma emphasized that ensuring accountability is vital for strengthening democratic institutions and maintaining public trust in the system.
