Arise Television personality Rufai Oseni has publicly criticized First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her recent suggestion that prominent Nigerian musicians should prioritize charitable donations over spending on high-end vehicles. Oseni took to social media on Sunday to question why the First Lady would make such a request while maintaining an extensive government motorcade. He argued that public officials bear a responsibility to demonstrate financial restraint before asking citizens to curb their own spending.
The critique stems from remarks made by the First Lady during the unveiling of the National Community Food Bank in Lokoja, Kogi State. During the event, she appealed to artists such as Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake to allocate more of their resources toward foundations that aid vulnerable members of society, stating that the government cannot manage the nation’s challenges in isolation. Oseni countered this by asserting that leaders must set the standard for sacrifice, specifically challenging the size of the presidential convoy as an area where government spending could be reduced.
