Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has declared his ambition to lead the club for the next 20 years, despite enduring a disastrous first season in charge.
Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November, oversaw just seven wins in 27 Premier League matches as United slumped to 15th place — their worst league finish in over 50 years.
Speaking to ESPN, the Portuguese coach reflected on his difficult debut campaign but insisted he remains committed to the long-term project.
“I want to stay for 20 years. That’s my goal, and I genuinely believe it’s possible,” he said. “Something always happens. Sometimes I’ll get lucky — I’ve been very lucky throughout my coaching career — and my intention is to stay here for many years.”
Amorim admitted the club’s performance last season fell far short of expectations. “I know I didn’t succeed last year, but I’m ready to start again,” he said. “Results are what matter most — we all know that.”
Despite the struggles, he is optimistic about United’s future. “I have no doubt we’ll succeed,” Amorim said. “Some things can’t be bought with money — and this club has those things: history, passionate supporters, and yes, financial power. We have money, even without Champions League football.”
