Rotary Club Of Lekki Golden Empowers Underserved Lekki Communities With ‘Project Safe Start’
The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden has rolled out a major healthcare intervention for underserved communities in Ikota, Lekki, through its flagship maternal and child health programme, Project Safe Start.
In collaboration with Orchid Road General Hospital and BioSci Health Care, the initiative delivered critical preventive care services, particularly targeting women and children.
Club President Christiana Okenla lauded partners, sponsors, and volunteers, saying, “Your support has brought hope, health, and healing to countless families. Together, we’ve demonstrated what is possible when service meets compassion.”
Key interventions included the distribution of 100 mosquito nets to fight malaria, the provision of 50 sickle cell screening kits for early diagnosis, and free health check-ups for over 70 women. Medical personnel from Orchid Road General Hospital handled on-site maternal wellness screenings.
The outreach also launched the Dress a Dream campaign, gifting clothing to children in need.
Okenla emphasized the programme’s alignment with Rotary International’s maternal and child health goals, noting its focus on sustainability and impact at the grassroots.
“This is Rotary in action, real people creating real change,” she added, reaffirming the club’s commitment to promoting health equity and expanding opportunities in vulnerable communities.
