The Italian Football Federation is allegedly in discussions to secure Pep Guardiola as the new manager of the national football team. Reports from Sky Italia indicate that technical director Paolo Maldini and adviser Leonardo spent three days in Barcelona meeting with the former Manchester City boss.
During these sessions, the delegation outlined their strategic goals for the Italian squad as they look to replace Gennaro Gattuso. While it is not yet known if the Spaniard is open to the position, the federation is demonstrating significant intent to recruit him.
The search also includes other notable candidates like Andrea Pirlo and Roberto Mancini. This recruitment drive follows a major internal reorganization prompted by Italy’s unsuccessful World Cup qualification campaign. Despite his impressive record of 20 trophies at Manchester City, Guardiola has previously suggested a desire for a sabbatical to focus on his family life.
