Manchester-based musician Aitch has taken on a rigorous physical feat, scaling Mount Kilimanjaro to generate funding and awareness for the Down’s Syndrome Association. This initiative is deeply personal for the 26-year-old, as his younger sister, Gracie, lives with the condition. Aitch describes his sister as a vibrant, positive force who is widely cherished, noting that her perspective on life is something he believes others should emulate.
His journey to the summit of Africa’s highest peak is the focus of a Netflix documentary titled Aitch: Don’t Be Afraid. Despite the physical intensity of the trek, which included extreme weather shifts and high altitude, the rapper stated that the mental toll was the most difficult aspect. He successfully raised over £160,000 for the cause, significantly exceeding his initial financial goal.
The rapper’s advocacy for those with Down’s syndrome gained public attention with his 2022 hit track, My G, which highlighted his strong bond with his sister. Aitch, who grew up as a sibling carer, encourages others in similar situations to embrace the challenges as blessings. He remains committed to raising further awareness for learning disabilities and supporting young carers, hoping his platform encourages broader public involvement.
The documentary featuring his climb is scheduled for release on Netflix starting July 26.
