Final determinations regarding criminal charges may not occur until June 2027, marking a full decade since the tragedy in west London that claimed 72 lives. Should the legal process proceed to trial, proceedings are not anticipated until 2029.
Grenfell United, a group supporting the affected families and survivors, acknowledged the update as a significant, albeit delayed, milestone. They stressed that the Ministry of Justice must provide adequate resources to prevent further setbacks in the pursuit of accountability.
A public inquiry previously determined that the catastrophe resulted from systemic failures involving government authorities, deceptive corporate entities, and inadequate emergency response measures. Operation Northleigh, the massive police investigation into these events, has scrutinized the involvement of 15,000 individuals across hundreds of organizations.
