Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer echoed these sentiments, expressing his own sadness while commending the players for their energy and commitment. Despite Anthony Gordon scoring for England in the 55th minute, Argentina ultimately rallied with two late goals to advance to the final against Spain.
Prince William, known for his personal interest in the sport as an Aston Villa supporter, thanked the players and staff for their efforts.
