President Tinubu Claims Economic Reforms Eliminated State Salary Debt

President Tinubu stated that current economic reforms have bolstered state revenues, ending the cycle of borrowing for salary payments while launching new infrastructure projects.

President Bola Tinubu asserted that his government’s fiscal strategies have empowered state administrations to clear worker salary arrears. He stated that improved revenue allocations allow states to handle payroll, settle gratuities, and fund infrastructure projects without resorting to loans. Represented by APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the President shared these remarks at the commencement of the Babban-Lamba–Sharam Phase II Road project in Plateau State.

Highlighting positive economic indicators, Tinubu noted that states currently receive significantly higher revenues compared to previous years. He emphasized that the administration’s focus on infrastructure, including the 61 road projects currently underway in the North-Central zone, aims to enhance security, facilitate regional trade, and foster growth. The Babban-Lamba–Sharam route is specifically intended to improve connectivity between Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Gombe, and Adamawa states.

Minister of Works David Umahi confirmed that the government terminated the original road contract due to subpar performance. The new construction will feature durable reinforced concrete pavement, solar lighting, and security enhancements. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang praised the initiative, noting it serves as a vital gateway for commerce. Local representative Yusuf Gagdi also commended the federal commitment to infrastructure and equitable project distribution, citing the benefits for agricultural and socio-economic development in the region.
