US President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to deport all immigrants living in the United States illegally during his upcoming four-year term.
In an interview aired Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump outlined his plans for a sweeping crackdown on illegal immigration and revealed his intention to end birthright citizenship in the United States on his first day in office.
When asked about deporting all undocumented immigrants during his upcoming term, Trump responded, “You have to do it.”
He reiterated this commitment later in the interview, saying, “We’re starting with the criminals, and we’ve got to do it.”
He acknowledged the logistical challenges involved, stating that it would be a difficult task but emphasizing its necessity.
Trump also said he would end birthright citizenship. “If we can, through executive action,” he stated, calling the policy “ridiculous.”
He suggested that he might use executive action on his first day in office but also mentioned the possibility of pursuing a constitutional amendment to achieve his goal. “We have to end it,” Trump said.
The Republican politician also expressed a willingness to negotiate with Democrats on a legislative solution for “Dreamers,” immigrants who were brought to the US illegally as children.
