The Nigerian Presidency has suggested that citizens currently residing in the country are often in a more favorable position than those who left to live overseas years ago. Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, shared this perspective during a recent appearance on The Morayo Podcast Show.
Bwala highlighted that numerous Nigerians who earned advanced degrees, including Masters and Ph.D. qualifications, often resort to low-skilled labor such as domestic care or warehouse work after moving abroad. He described this cycle as a form of modern-day servitude, arguing that the conditions of these foreign jobs can be more degrading than local domestic roles.
According to Bwala, the perception of hardship within Nigeria does not always align with the reality faced by those who emigrated. He emphasized that many individuals who believe they are struggling domestically possess a better quality of life than their peers who relocated five years ago.
