Police Kill Tiger in Germany Following Keeper Attack

A 72-year-old keeper was seriously wounded after a tiger escaped its enclosure at a private facility in Germany, forcing police to shoot and kill the animal.

German law enforcement fatally shot a tiger after the animal injured its 72-year-old handler inside a private enclosure near Leipzig on Sunday.

Officers arrived shortly after receiving a 12:50 local time emergency call and neutralized the male tiger to prevent further public danger.

The facility is linked to Carmen Zander, a trainer known as Germany’s Tiger Queen. Reports indicate eight large cats are housed at this industrial site in Schkeuditz.

While an investigation into how the animal breached the enclosure is underway, local authorities are using drones to confirm the security of the remaining animals.

Schkeuditz District Mayor Thomas Druskat urged officials to move the remaining cats, labeling the situation dangerous. Residents expressed concerns regarding animal welfare standards at the site.

Peta has requested that the government implement tighter regulations for private exotic animal ownership, noting that the facility offers public petting sessions.

Zander’s website claims the animals are well-maintained, though some local reports and animal advocates have previously questioned the conditions provided at the location.
