A recent violent clash broke out in Borno State between two opposing Boko Haram groups, resulting in significant losses for the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction. Fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) successfully ambushed their rivals near Bula Murge in the Bama Local Government Area.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the attack occurred near Gargash, roughly 11 kilometres north of Miyanti. The surprise offensive caused substantial casualties among JAS leadership. Reports identified several deceased senior commanders, including Abu Ubaida, Modu Kori, Alhaji Modu, Mure, Zarkawi, Sheriff, and Modu Maye.
Intelligence suggests the surviving JAS militants are in a state of chaos, with intercepted messages indicating they are evacuating their families to Bula Daloye after their original camps were destroyed. During the assault, ISWAP militants burned down Bula Murge and Nguro Bafuye, eliminating critical supplies and shelter.
Security experts believe this internal conflict has crippled the JAS faction. Consequently, military command has ordered troops in Miyanti, Bama, and Kumshe to increase pressure and conduct sustained offensives. These operations aim to prevent both factions from reorganizing and to further weaken insurgent networks near the Sambisa Forest.
