Pink Dot, a prominent LGBTQ advocacy festival in Hong Kong, has been called off for the second year in a row. Organizers announced that the host site withdrew their agreement during the final phase of event planning.
Since its inception in 2014, the annual gathering has showcased music, creative arts, and diversity-focused workshops.
While the event previously hosted nearly 7,000 attendees, the 2024 and 2025 iterations faced significant obstacles. Last year, the festival was blocked from its venue without a clear justification.
For the upcoming June event, organizers stated that Link REIT, the real estate manager, reported that licensing complications prevented the rental.
Despite working to secure the required permits, the group noted that government authorities had not granted the necessary approvals with only a month remaining. Consequently, the organizers chose to cancel rather than risk further uncertainty.
This development follows a period of frustration for the local LGBTQ community, particularly after the legislature rejected a bill regarding same-sex couple rights this past September.
