Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 election, has stated that he lacks a desperate need to occupy the presidency. During an appearance on the Channels Television program Sunday Politics, he maintained that his primary focus is ensuring the nation functions effectively for every citizen.
The former governor of Anambra state explained that his engagement in politics is motivated by a necessity to address the country’s systemic issues rather than a selfish pursuit of authority. Obi remarked that he is not driven by an urgent need for the office itself, but rather by an urgent need to see the nation succeed. He stated he is willing to support any effort that contributes to national stability and growth.
Obi argued that true leadership is defined by the capacity to elevate the standard of living for the populace, rebuild trust in administrative institutions, and foster economic expansion. He stressed that collective national advancement must come before individual political goals. Ultimately, he pledged to pursue reforms that stabilize the economy and reinforce governance structures if he secures the presidency in 2027.
