Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has cautioned Rivers State voters to make informed decisions during the 2027 gubernatorial election. He emphasized that the state must avoid the errors made during the 2015 election cycle, which he believes have led to lasting instability and institutional decline.
In a recent statement from Port Harcourt, Eze addressed the influence of political power brokers. He specifically challenged remarks by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike regarding his authority to dictate the state’s future leadership. Eze insisted that Rivers State does not belong to any single person and that the practice of godfatherism is detrimental to democracy. He asserted that any effort to force a candidate upon the population should be resisted.
Eze highlighted a pattern of leadership originating from the upland region since 1999, involving Peter Odili, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nyesom Wike. He argued that the state needs a shift toward fairness and inclusivity. Supporting this vision, he endorsed ADC candidate Dr. Gabriel Pidomson. As a member of the Ogoni ethnic group, which has never held the positions of governor, deputy governor, chief judge, or speaker, Pidomson is presented as a candidate who could foster greater unity and progress in the state.
