Obioha Warns of 2027 Election Crisis if Peter Obi Is Barred

Njiko Igbo Forum leader Rev. Dr. Okechukwu Obioha asserts that excluding Peter Obi from the 2027 presidential ballot would prevent the successful conduct of the upcoming general elections.

Rev. Dr. Okechukwu Christopher Obioha, head of the Njiko Igbo Forum, has cautioned that Nigeria might face significant electoral instability in 2027 if Peter Obi is blocked from the presidential race. This statement arrived shortly after a Federal High Court decision in Lokoja mandated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remove the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from its register.

Justice Isah Dashen ruled that the NDC’s registration was flawed because the Peace Movement Party (PMP) was not consulted regarding a dispute over a shared party logo. Obioha expressed deep skepticism regarding the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary, arguing that recent rulings have severely eroded public trust. He blamed the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for compromising judicial independence.

Highlighting the potential for unrest, Obioha insisted that barring Peter Obi from the ballot would effectively halt the 2027 election cycle. He emphasized that his words serve as a warning rather than a threat, suggesting that citizens are becoming increasingly disillusioned with the existing political structure and are nearing a breaking point with the country’s governance.
