The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership for managing Nigeria with what it calls disturbing carelessness. The party released this statement on its official X account this past Sunday in response to a corruption scandal involving Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff, and Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Adeyemi recently claimed that he paid N400 million through an intermediary to Gbajabiamila, who allegedly requested an extra N200 million to facilitate his official appointment. While the Presidency has rejected these claims, arguing that the Chief of Staff lacks the authority to issue appointments, the PDP maintains that the situation highlights deep-seated institutional corruption.
In its official response, the PDP asserted that comments from Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirm long-held public suspicions regarding the APC government. The opposition party described the current administration as a system where nepotism and favoritism have replaced merit, functioning similarly to a criminal organization. The PDP further highlighted several past controversies, such as naming deceased individuals to board positions, the contentious inclusion of certain people on presidential pardon lists, and the N800 billion Progressive Governors Forum scandal, as evidence of a recurring pattern of failure.
