Patrick Spencer acquitted of sexual assault charges

Independent MP Patrick Spencer has been found not guilty of sexual assault following a trial at Southwark Crown Court concerning incidents at a London club in 2023.

Independent Member of Parliament for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, Patrick Spencer, has been cleared of sexual assault charges at Southwark Crown Court. The 38-year-old politician faced two counts of sexual assault regarding allegations involving two women at the Groucho Club in London.

The events in question occurred on August 12, 2023, prior to Spencer entering Parliament. Prosecutors claimed that Spencer approached two women independently and touched their breasts without consent. Spencer, who was elected as a Conservative in July 2024 before having the whip removed in 2025, denied the allegations throughout the trial. He testified that while he was intoxicated that evening, he did not recall the events as described by the accusers.

After deliberating for over seven hours, the jury returned a not guilty verdict. Spencer expressed significant emotional relief following the announcement. He currently remains an Independent MP.
