Patrice Evra has renewed his criticism of Theo Walcott following the former Arsenal striker’s attempt to equate the 2008 Manchester United squad with Mikel Arteta’s current team.
The debate began in January when Walcott asked Wayne Rooney if the 2008 side could compete with the modern Arsenal lineup during a Champions League broadcast.
Rooney famously dismissed the notion, claiming his trophy-winning United side would soundly defeat the current Gunners.
Evra was equally dismissive, previously suggesting that Walcott was intoxicated during the exchange and should reconsider his role as a television analyst.
During a discussion with former United teammates Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs, Evra doubled down on his frustration. He labeled Walcott’s comparison as harmful and delusional, asserting that such comments are disrespectful to the history of the 2008 squad.
Evra maintained his long-standing view that Arsenal fans and representatives often hold unrealistic expectations, noting that he speaks from experience when questioning the validity of their title aspirations.
