Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has come to the defense of President Bola Tinubu regarding recent criticisms of his handling of national insecurity. During a gala event hosted by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, Adeboye argued that it is unjust to blame the president, asserting that Tinubu has satisfied his duties by commanding the military forces.
Using a comparison to former U.S. President Donald Trump, the cleric explained that a commander-in-chief is responsible for issuing orders rather than participating in physical combat. While he excused the president’s direct responsibility, Adeboye admitted that the security situation has significantly worsened, spreading from the northern regions into the southern parts of Nigeria. He noted that threats like kidnapping and terrorism have reached his own vicinity.
Adeboye revealed that he previously advised President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to hold military leadership accountable. Specifically, he recommended that the president issue a 90-day ultimatum to service chiefs to eradicate terrorism or face resignation. Furthermore, the pastor stressed that the government must target the wealthy and influential figures who fund these criminal activities. He concluded by urging the United States to assist Nigeria in its fight against violent groups by cooperating with international allies.
