The African Action Congress (AAC) has formally requested that Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu remove Osun State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan from his post. The party argues that Gotan’s continued presence threatens the stability of the upcoming August 15, 2026, gubernatorial election.
Akinlade Semiu Babatunde, the AAC Publicity Secretary, stated that the state police command currently lacks public trust. The party alleges a deliberate effort by the APC-led federal government to incite instability in the state, potentially to trigger an election delay and force an unelected administrator into power.
The AAC reported a surge in political violence and intimidation, pointing specifically to a recent incident at the Old Garage motor park in Osogbo, where armed individuals caused widespread fear. The party claims that despite reported instances of kidnapping and targeted attacks against opposition members, law enforcement has remained inactive. Furthermore, the AAC highlighted viral footage appearing to show police officers interacting with political thugs, accusing the command of abandoning its neutrality.
Stressing that the scheduled election must proceed, the party urged labor groups, youth organizations, and international observers to monitor the situation closely to protect democratic processes in the state.
