The Ondo State government has taken disciplinary action against 17 secondary school students following a viral video showing improper behavior during graduation celebrations. The students, who attended Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas College, and CAC Grammar School in Akure, had their West African Senior School Certificate Examination results and school testimonials withheld indefinitely.
The video captured these students damaging school uniforms and shouting offensive slogans after finishing their exams. Following a meeting between government officials and school administrators, authorities decided to place the students in a disciplinary black book. Additionally, any student in the video who had not yet reached graduation status faces immediate expulsion.
School officials have also been questioned for failing to supervise the students properly. Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, the Commissioner for Education, stated that the government will not permit such behavior to damage the reputation of the state’s educational institutions. Parents and the involved students have been requested to appear at the ministry to be formally notified of these penalties.
