The Ondo State Police Command is currently investigating a troubling video that shows an officer threatening to assault and lock up a motorist at a local checkpoint. The footage, which gained significant traction on social media this past Friday, features an officer telling a traveler that he would be under arrest if he belonged to the Igbo ethnic group.
Reports indicate the victim is a Nigerian who recently arrived from the United Kingdom. He was pulled over by authorities under suspicion of extortion. In response to the backlash, the state police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that the department views the recording with extreme seriousness.
Jimoh emphasized that the police force maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding unprofessional behavior among staff. He confirmed that a comprehensive review of the incident is underway. Additionally, the spokesperson invited the affected traveler to contact his office to share necessary details that could support the investigation and lead to a proper resolution.
