The Ogun State Police Command and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have initiated a coordinated operation to remove sachet and PET bottled alcoholic beverages under 200ml from the market. This collaboration was formalized when the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, met with the NAFDAC Ogun Office 1 coordinator, Akinwale Fagoroye, at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta.
Fagoroye stated that the enforcement campaign, which started in Abeokuta, is expanding throughout the state to ensure total compliance. The primary objective is to safeguard public health by limiting the accessibility of inexpensive, portable alcohol to minors and youths. NAFDAC teams are actively inspecting markets, retail shops, warehouses, and transport hubs to confiscate unapproved, expired, or substandard products.
Commissioner Ojajuni pledged full police assistance to NAFDAC, emphasizing that the state police are also strictly enforcing the Liquor Act. He noted that the joint effort seeks to prevent illegal distribution channels and activities that threaten public safety. Both agencies are urging business owners and the public to adhere to these health regulations and report any non-compliant activities to the authorities.
