Ogun State Launches Steering Committee to Lead National Community Food Bank Initiative

Ogun State has inaugurated a steering committee for the National Community Food Bank Programme, a project led by Senator Oluremi Tinubu to reduce malnutrition among vulnerable populations.

The Ogun State Government has formally established a steering committee to oversee the National Community Food Bank Programme (NCFBP). This national project is designed to tackle malnutrition and enhance food security for low-income residents. The initiative, championed by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, seeks to provide consistent access to healthy, locally sourced food.

During the inauguration, Dr. Tomi Coker, the State Commissioner for Health and chairperson of the committee, highlighted that the primary focus is the wellbeing of children aged six and under, as well as pregnant and nursing mothers. She urged committee members to ensure the project is executed effectively to improve nutritional outcomes at the local level.

Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Board, praised the move, noting that it strengthens existing support systems. Various state commissioners and local officials voiced their support, labeling the program a vital response to national food security concerns. The committee, which includes representatives from various government ministries, traditional leaders, and development partners, will manage strategic oversight, transparency, and performance tracking. The South-West launch of the NCFBP is slated to take place in Ogun State on July 25.
