The Ogun State Ministry of Justice has released updates regarding two major gender-based violence cases. Attorney-General Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN) announced that thorough investigations confirmed the rape allegation made by Nsikak Abigael Emem, known as Mirabel, was completely fabricated. Official reports, supported by admissions from Emem herself, determined that no such assault occurred.
Rather than pursuing criminal charges, the government has chosen to prioritize rehabilitation. Emem is currently under the care of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, where she is making positive progress and resuming her academic pursuits. The government noted that prosecuting her would not serve the interest of justice as effectively as providing the necessary psychosocial support.
Regarding the separate case of a 15-year-old girl gang-raped in Ifo, the ministry reported significant progress. While one suspect, Segun Samuel, was apprehended shortly after the crime, authorities have now successfully captured the alleged ringleader, Qudus Abiola Yekini. This arrest was made possible through coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Justice and the Ogun State Police Command.
Officials are still searching for the remaining two suspects involved in the assault. The state government maintains a strict stance against gender-based violence and reiterated that all individuals who commit such crimes will face legal consequences. The public is warned against engaging in criminal activity or filing false reports, as authorities remain vigilant in upholding the law.
