Ogun Commissioner Urges South-West Women To Unite For Equity, Empowerment
The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adeleye, has called for stronger collaboration among women across South-West Nigeria to bridge the gender gap, strengthen family systems, and boost female empowerment, key ingredients for national stability and prosperity.
She made the call on Thursday in Abeokuta during the Pre-Council Workshop for the South-West zone’s Ministries of Women Affairs. The event, held in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, forms part of the lead-up to the 25th National Council of Women Affairs meeting scheduled for later this year in Edo State.
Describing the workshop as a catalyst rather than a formality, Adeleye emphasized its potential to foster purpose-driven dialogue, strategic planning, and shared solutions for women’s empowerment, child protection, and community resilience.
“In a time where gender disparities threaten progress, this platform enables us to exchange ideas and craft policy directions that will influence national outcomes,” she said.
Highlighting Ogun State’s strides, Adeleye pointed to inclusive governance, gender equity programs, and support systems for vulnerable groups as evidence of commitment. However, she stressed that such efforts require regional collaboration to scale their impact.
“Collaboration is the heartbeat of progress. I urge everyone to engage with courage, compassion, and clarity of purpose,” she added.
She encouraged participants to move beyond discussions and return with actionable strategies that will improve lives across the South-West.
Also speaking at the workshop, Dr. Maryam Keshinro, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs represented by Ameh Esther highlighted the session’s importance in aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly on women, children, and vulnerable groups.
In her remarks, Mrs. Adejumoke Adewole, Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs, described the workshop as a timely opportunity to assess gains made in protecting women and girls.
She applauded the state’s proactive steps, including the deployment of Gender Desk Officers across government ministries and local councils, who serve as first responders for gender-based violence and lead awareness efforts at the grassroots level.
