The National Industrial Court in Lagos has set October 29 as the date to hear a legal challenge regarding the suspension of Lagos State TUC Chairman, Biodun Aladetan, by the national union body.
This case, registered as NICN/LA/129/2026, was initially presented last Thursday. The judge decided to postpone the proceedings to allow for the scheduled motion on notice to be addressed. In the interim, the court ordered the national leadership to stop all forms of intimidation or harassment directed at Aladetan.
The TUC National Administrative Council initially removed Aladetan from his post in February 2026, citing claims of insubordination and actions contrary to union policy. Aladetan is now contesting the validity of this decision in court. He is requesting a judgment that declares his removal void and unlawful. Furthermore, he seeks to be reinstated and has asked the court to block the national leadership from establishing a caretaker committee while the legal dispute is ongoing.
Following the hearing, legal representative Joseph Opute stated that the suspension breached the union’s own constitutional guidelines and ignored the right to a fair hearing. Opute maintained that the disciplinary measures were illegitimate and requested that the court formally overturn the suspension.
