Nyesom Wike Forecasts Election Hurdles for PDP in 2027

Minister Nyesom Wike claims the PDP faces a steep climb to win the 2027 presidential election due to unresolved internal party issues.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stated on Thursday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faces significant challenges that could hinder its chances of securing a presidential victory in 2027. During a media session in Abuja, Wike attributed these difficulties to persistent internal conflicts within the party.

The minister questioned the current public perception that equates the health of Nigerian democracy solely with the involvement of figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. He challenged the notion that a presidential race is only legitimate if these specific individuals participate, suggesting that the party is currently ill-equipped to mount a successful national campaign.

Wike emphasized that the PDP must prioritize stabilizing its foundations at the state level before contemplating broader success. He dismissed criticisms directed at his own political loyalties, noting that those who previously labeled him an agent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have failed to offer viable solutions for the party’s recovery.
