NRC Announces Warri-Itakpe Train Service To Resume April 30
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri-Itakpe train service will resume operations on April 30, following a suspension that began on April 10 due to a series of technical issues, including engine failures.
In a statement released on Monday, April 28, Callistus Unyimadu, Acting Deputy Director of Public Relations at the NRC, said engineers had resolved the challenges, strengthened operational capacity, and taken steps to improve overall service delivery.
“The Management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) wishes to inform the public that following the suspension of Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) on April 10th 2025, due to technical and operational challenges – chief among them multiple engine failures, services will resume on Wednesday, April 30, 2025,” the statement reads.
The NRC management, under the leadership of Managing Director and CEO Dr. Kayode Opeifa, extended an apology to passengers, stakeholders, and the general public for the inconvenience caused by the service suspension.
“NRC engineers have worked diligently to rectify the issues, enhance operational capacity, and improve service delivery,” the corporation stated.
According to the NRC, the Warri-Itakpe train service will run six days a week—Monday through Wednesday and Friday through Sunday—starting May 1. Thursdays will be set aside for routine maintenance of both the track and rolling stock.
The corporation also confirmed that passengers who requested refunds during the suspension have been fully reimbursed, while those who chose to wait can now revalidate their tickets for any preferred travel date via the NRC’s electronic ticketing platform.
“For assistance, please contact our ticketing line at 0903 788 0657,” NRC said.
“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience, support, and cooperation of our esteemed customers and stakeholders,” the statement continued.
