The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is rolling out updated protocols to manage truck traffic flow at national seaports, specifically targeting the recurring gridlock surrounding the Apapa port area. These changes focus on creating precise time frames for vehicles traveling from authorized pre-gates to port terminals to facilitate better cargo movement.
Through its partner, Truck Transit Park (TTP), the NPA issued an official mandate establishing a 72-hour window for trucks departing from pre-gates to reach the Tin-Can Island Port Complex. This policy becomes mandatory starting July 16, 2026. Once a truck departs a pre-gate facility, it has exactly three days to complete its arrival at the designated terminal.
By enforcing this timeframe, the NPA expects to streamline entry processes, minimize road blockages, and accelerate the removal of goods from the port. Terminal operators, trucking firms, and vehicle owners are required to strictly adhere to these new rules to ensure operational efficiency.
