Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest, has initiated legal proceedings against Crystal Palace due to an inflammatory banner displayed by the club’s supporters. According to BBC Sport, a defamation suit was filed in the High Court.
The banner, shown during a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park last August, featured an image of Marinakis pointing a firearm at Morgan Gibbs-White. It also included text referencing allegations of blackmail, match-fixing, drug trafficking, and corruption, all of which Marinakis has firmly denied.
The Football Association previously charged Crystal Palace in November 2025 for failing to control spectator behavior. While the banner was not cited specifically in that charge, the organization maintains strict rules against offensive, defamatory, or political displays. This conflict follows a period of uncertainty for Gibbs-White, who ultimately signed a new contract with Nottingham Forest despite interest from Tottenham.
