NMDPRA Urges Calm, Assures Nigerians Of Adequate Fuel Supply

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has appealed to citizens to avoid panic buying, assuring that there is sufficient fuel supply across the country despite the current surge in demand.

In a statement issued on November 12 and signed by George Ene-Ita, the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, the NMDPRA emphasized that Nigeria maintains “adequate national sufficiency” of petroleum products including petrol (PMS), diesel (AGO), and cooking gas (LPG) sourced from both local refineries and imports.

The regulator also warned marketers against hoarding or inflating fuel prices, describing such actions as unjustified given the healthy supply situation.

Addressing recent market concerns, the NMDPRA clarified that the 15% ad-valorem import duty earlier proposed on imported petrol and diesel “is no longer in view,” a move expected to ease pricing pressures and stabilize pump costs.

“The Authority will continue to monitor the supply and distribution chain closely to prevent any disruption, especially during this peak demand period,” the statement added, while commending stakeholders for their ongoing cooperation.

Meanwhile, data from OPEC’s October 2025 Monthly Oil Market Report showed that Nigeria’s average crude oil production rose slightly to 1.401 million barrels per day, up from 1.39 million barrels per day in September.

Despite the marginal increase, the figure remains below the country’s OPEC quota of 1.5 million barrels per day marking the third consecutive month of underperformance.
