The Federal High Court of Nigeria has introduced the 2026 Practice Directions to streamline and expedite the handling of pre-election legal disputes.

The Federal High Court of Nigeria has rolled out the Federal High Court (Pre-Election) Practice Directions, 2026. This initiative focuses on accelerating the resolution of pre-election conflicts while maintaining procedural fairness throughout the nation.

Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher, the Director of Information for the court, released a formal statement confirming that Chief Judge Hon. Justice John Terhemba Tsoho authorized these new mandates. These guidelines align with the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act of 2026, and other relevant legal statutes to improve case management.

These updated directions officially replace the 2022 versions, establishing a current framework for all pre-election litigation. Legal professionals, political organizations, and the public are encouraged to review these changes, as copies have been distributed to ensure all parties understand the new requirements.
