Chinyere, a mother from Imo State, recently went viral after she presented a live goat to her son, Promise Okoro, during his graduation ceremony at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede. The unconventional gift served as a public reward for her son, who successfully finished his studies while adhering to her strict advice against joining cult groups.
Speaking to BBC News Pidgin, Chinyere clarified that she lacked the financial resources to purchase a luxury vehicle like a 4matic jeep. However, she was determined to honor her pledge to celebrate his academic achievements. She spent N120,000 on the animal, noting she was willing to pay even more to ensure she kept her word. She praised her son for his respectful nature and his dedication to his football career during his time at the school.
Promise Okoro expressed initial confusion when he saw the commotion, as he briefly suspected a marriage proposal because onlookers were chanting for him to say yes. Upon realizing the surprise was from his mother, he felt deep joy and pride rather than embarrassment. He emphasized that he felt no shame regarding his mother’s gesture, as he was simply grateful for her support and presence at his sign-out event.
