Nigerian Law School student passes away following rooftop fall in Lagos

A 23-year-old law student has died after falling from a four-story hostel building in Lagos, with police launching an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

Lagos State police authorities have verified the death of Faith Alayande, a 23-year-old student at the Nigerian Law School. The tragedy occurred at the institution’s Victoria Island housing facility on August 7, 2026.

State Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi stated that the event was reported by the hostel matron. Before the fall, a relative and a hostel peer reportedly found a note written by Alayande and initiated a search. Despite their efforts, they were unable to prevent her from jumping off the four-story structure.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama noted that the school’s Chief Matron, Mrs. Igbokwe Juliana, formally notified the Victoria Island Police Division of the fatality at 6:30 a.m. Responding officers arrived at the scene to collect evidence and transport the body to a morgue.

The police are currently conducting an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the fall and verify the contents of the recovered note.
