Nigerian Football Clubs Prepare for September Continental Kickoff

Nigerian football clubs including Rangers and Rivers United are preparing to start their CAF continental campaigns in September 2026.

According to DAILY POST, three Nigerian clubs—Rangers, Rivers United, and Shooting Stars—are set to start their continental challenges this September.

Rangers, the current Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) winners, alongside Rivers United, will represent the nation in the CAF Champions League. Meanwhile, Shooting Stars will participate in the CAF Confederation Cup, joined by the victor of the President Federation Cup. The final of that tournament between Nasarawa United and Ikorodu City is slated for July 11 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

The preliminary stage for both the Champions League and Confederation Cup is set for September 4-6, with the second legs occurring from September 11-13, 2026. Following this, the second preliminary round is booked for October 16-18, and the return matches are planned for October 23-25, 2026. The group stages for both tournaments are expected to commence by late November.
