In Kaduna, the Nigerian Army has launched a specialized training initiative to sharpen the abilities of its engineering personnel in neutralizing the increasing danger of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). This seminar was coordinated by the 41 Engineer Brigade of the 1 Division as the culmination of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) X2 Course 126.
Maj.-Gen. Josiah Attah, representing the Commander of the Corps of Engineers Maj.-Gen. S.T. Shafaru, emphasized that this program ensures engineers are ready to provide vital support for national security operations. New engineering recruits typically receive comprehensive instruction in combat, field, and technical engineering before advancing to specialized duties. This specific EOD curriculum was implemented to boost the number of disposal experts and bolster overall military effectiveness.
Maj.-Gen. Shafaru noted that IEDs represent a primary obstacle in current counter-insurgency missions, hindering both military maneuvers and humanitarian efforts. Army engineers actively work to clear routes of explosives to guarantee secure transit for soldiers and residents alike. Beyond national efforts, the military is collaborating with international partners, such as the British Military Assistance Training Team and the German Training and Assistance Group, to refine technical skills and intelligence cooperation. Residents are strongly encouraged to contact security forces immediately if they encounter any suspicious items, as community vigilance is key to preventing future threats.
