Led by Justin Madugu, the squad secured a 6-2 victory against Egypt on Wednesday, reaching a total of six points. While Nigeria, Malawi, and Zambia all finished with identical points, CAF regulations dictated that only direct results between these three nations determined the standings. Consequently, Malawi claimed the top spot, while Zambia was sent home.
According to the fixed knockout schedule, the runner-up from Group C is paired against the winner of Group D. Cameroon clinched the first position in their group after defeating Mali 2-1 and Ghana 1-0. Because Ghana lost the head-to-head matchup against the Indomitable Lionesses, they are unable to secure the top spot in Group D, leaving them to play Mali on Thursday to decide second place.
