The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has successfully wrapped up a two-week professional development program for staff at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. This initiative serves as the inaugural event in a nationwide training series targeting all NIS airport commands.
DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the service spokesperson, confirmed the sessions took place between July 28 and August 7, 2026, at the NIS headquarters. The curriculum aimed to bolster operational effectiveness, promote ethical standards, and improve how staff interact with the public.
Titled “Repositioning NIS Airport Operations for Professional Excellence, Ethical Conduct and Enhanced Service Delivery,” the program provided hands-on training in key areas. These included passenger profiling, entry verification, MIDAS technology, e-Gate operations, and anti-corruption strategies. Comptroller General Kemi Nandap introduced this effort to keep pace with rising passenger volumes and the integration of modern border management systems.
The agency stated that these regular capacity-building exercises are part of its broader mission to align with international standards and provide a smoother experience for global travelers while maintaining strict border security.
