The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a formal advisory warning the public about deceptive websites and scammers attempting to impersonate its official digital presence. Released Thursday in Abuja via official social media channels, the notice stresses the importance of using only verified portals for all immigration needs.
This alert aims to safeguard both citizens and foreign nationals from schemes targeting those pursuing visas, passports, or other immigration documentation. The agency clarified that the designated passport portal is the only legitimate site for passport requests. Furthermore, specific official platforms are maintained for visa applications, e-Visas, Temporary Work Permits, and eCERPAC registrations.
Officials strongly encouraged the public to stay alert and steer clear of unauthorized individuals or websites claiming to act on behalf of the NIS. By sticking to official channels, users protect themselves from identity theft and financial fraud. The service also highlighted that its official contactless passport mobile application can be securely downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
To maintain security, the NIS advised users to double-check the legitimacy of any website before providing personal data or processing payments. Citizens should rely solely on information shared through the service’s verified channels and report any suspicious activity immediately.
