The Nigeria Police Force has officially denied claims that a viral video shows an officer interacting with bandits, clarifying that the individuals involved are registered vigilantes and hunters assisting in security operations in Katsina State.

The Nigeria Police Force has officially refuted claims circulating on social media that a video showing an officer interacting with supposed armed bandits in Katsina State is accurate. Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, stated that the individuals in the footage are not criminals.

These individuals are actually verified members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and registered hunters who partner with security forces in the Musawa and Matazu regions. The footage records a standard exchange between law enforcement and these volunteers as they headed toward a mission to reduce crime.

The police described the rumors as malicious and intended to sow public distrust. Officials have warned that spreading such misinformation causes unnecessary anxiety and could interfere with active security operations. Authorities are urging the public to ignore these claims and rely solely on official sources for updates. The force warned that it may pursue legal action against those who create or spread deceptive content and reaffirmed its commitment to community-based collaboration to ensure public safety.
