The Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service, successfully stopped 220 shipments of illicit items valued at ₦3.237 billion. In addition to these seizures, the agency successfully recouped ₦728.9 million in lost revenue. Public Relations Officer Hussaini Abdullahi noted that these results stem from improved risk analysis and strict monitoring, aimed at shielding local producers and securing national trade routes.
Among the confiscated items were 4,956 bags of foreign rice, 12 imported vehicles, and a wide array of contraband including synthetic cannabis, Tramadol, elephant tusks, and petroleum products. Comptroller Gambo Aliyu highlighted that these enforcement actions are vital for public health, as they prevent harmful drugs and unregulated pharmaceuticals from reaching the youth.
The unit also continues to target customs fraud, such as false declarations, to ensure that national revenue is fully collected. Aliyu stressed that while the agency prioritizes trade facilitation for law-abiding businesses, it will maintain a firm stance against smuggling and economic sabotage. The success of these operations is credited to better intelligence gathering and collaboration with other agencies and the public. The Comptroller urged continued cooperation from citizens to help sustain these gains in security and economic stability.
